Assalamu alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakatuhu
The noble Shaykh Ubayd al-Jabari – may Allaah protect him- repeats his warning against communication, with mobile phones or over the internet, between men and women while claiming the justification of seeking knowledge or giving Dawa’.
In an open question and answer session taking place every Sunday evening in the Paltalk room ‘Salafi Duroos’, the noble Shaykh said: ‘Communicating over the telephone is an area and way in which the heart of both the speaker and communicator will become attached to the other’s!’
Here is a transcript of what the Shaykh commented on after an answer to a similar question:
‘I would like to bring to attention a dangerous issue…. Which many of the Muslim men and women who they ascribe themselves to knowledge fall into. I have dealt with this issue before but many of the people have refused it and that they have been obstinate and rejected the advice!!
From the news that has reached me of the danger of this issue, a person finds it embarrassing to mention it…. And this is the issue, which is individuals speaking over the phone and communicating via mobile phones.
This matter has overcome many men and women with the justification of Dawa’ but this justification is not valid and it is an excuse which is corrupt. It is not hidden from every Muslim man and woman whose heart has been filled with the awe and reverential fear of Allaah, that al-Khallwaa (being alone with a member of the opposite sex with whom there is no relation) is Haraam. The meaning here is that khallwaa is being alone with strange men and women.
As for the evil effects of this, as have been relayed to me, they are more severe than al-Khallwaa (being alone with a member of the opposite sex with whom there is no relation), since al-Khallwaa in a house or in a car causes the people to look at them, as for communicating over the internet and sending and receiving messages over the phone then this is a hidden Khallwaa, which is only known to the Originator of the heavens and the earth and the noble scribes (Angels).
Indeed many women have complained that what has busied their husbands are these conversations and communication and I will mention some of their evil effects for you:
Firstly: if these communications are taking place in a chat room, for example in ‘Salafi Duroos’ so I say in the name of those supervising ‘Salafi Duroos’ ‘this type of chatting is a sin upon you… this type of chatting is a sin upon you … I do not hold it to be permissible’ I say this because I supervise ‘Salafi Duroos’ so I speak with the ruling of a representative.
Secondly: Chatting like this busies one from learning knowledge, since those who isolate themselves by conversing with whatever they want from conversation, then they busy themselves away from what is transmitted by ‘Salafi Duroos’ and from other knowledge-based lessons and this is obstruction in the path of Allaah.
Thirdly: Communicating over the telephone is an area and way in which the heart of both the speaker and communicator will become attached to the other’s! And this is – I swear by Allaah – the path of Fitnah and an entrance for Shaytaan. It is not permissible for you, O dear Muslim sister, that you spend your time conversing with strangers with the justification of Dawa’. If you have the pressing need to ask a question then ask the people of knowledge to the extent of your need and then turn away.
Further, this communication has in it greetings and gentle speech which is a type of submissive speech which has been prohibited, O Muslim sister. As a result, perhaps you might be a cause of what creeps in between married couples of unrest, quarrels and bad relations between them, the result of which could perhaps be divorce.
I have come to know that in the West and perhaps also in the East, that which is hated has occurred due to this communication and conversing.
This is why I call every Salafi man and woman to leave this terrible action which Shaytaan has opened up to them and beautified in their hearts, using the justification of knowledge and spreading of knowledge and Dawa’. It was not from the practice of the Salaf that men and women would meet up to study together, but rather a woman would ask a scholar about what a woman needs in her Deen. Also, if a female scholar was found then she would sit and listen to the men and women who came to her and would speak to the men in the presence of her guardian from behind a screen.
This is what I wanted to bring to (your) attention and Allaah knows I did not intend anything but advice and I hold that this advice to you is an obligation upon us, O dear Muslims. Allaah is The One Who guides to the correct way.’
We say JazakAllaahu Khairan O our Shaykh for this fine advice and we ask Allaah -Subhana wa Ta’ala- that He grants us and all our brothers and sisters the ability to follow the advice of the Shaykh, which he always repeats in his gatherings.
We also advise the brothers and sisters that when the lessons begin, whether they are live or recorded, that they should not busy themselves with talking on the side. We – and all praise belongs to Allaah – sacrifice time, effort and wealth for these lessons, to transmit them to you while you are in your homes or offices, so then it saddens us to know that some people attend with their nicknames only, while they are busy chatting on the side - which has no benefit - and Allaah’s aid is sought.
We ask Allaah -Subhana wa Ta’ala - that He grants us awe and reverential fear of Him in secret and in open and that He grants us sincerity in all our actions, Allaah is The Guide to the correct way.
Your Brother

Choose your companions wisely
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “A man is upon the deen of his khaleel, so each one of you should look to see whom he takes as a khaleel.” (Abu Dawood 13/179, at-Tirmidhee 4/589; Ahmad 2/303; al-Haakim 4/171)
Ibn Abdul Barr said: “The meaning of this and Allah knows best is that a person accustoms himself to the actions he views from those he accompanies and the (meaning of ) deen is habitude. As such, he ordered one to only accompany the person who is seen to have (manners) that re graceful and beautiful, since goodness is mannerism.
‘Adee ibn Zayd said: About the person, do not question, but ask about his companion. Since every companion emulates the one he associates with.
Abee al-‘Itaahiyyah said: Who could (still) remain unknown to you if you were to look at his companion?
Aboo Sulayman al-Khattaabee said: “His saying, ‘A man is upon the deen of his khaleel means: do not take as an intimate companion anyone other than one whose deen and trustworthiness you are pleased with, because when you do take one as an intimate companion, he will lead you to his deen and way. Do not endanger your deen or take a risk with your soul by taking as an intimate companion one whose deen and way is not pleasing.”
Ibn Mas’ood said: “Assess the people by their intimates, for a person only befriends one whom appeals to him and whom he admires.”
Al-‘Amash related: “They (i.e., the Salaf) did not ask about a person after (having ascertained) three (things): whom he used to walk with, whom he used to enter with and whom his acquaintances were among the people.”
Sufyaan said: “There is nothing more influential upon the corruption or rectification of an individual than a companion.”
Qataadah said: Indeed, By Allaah, we have not witnessed a person accompany except one who is like him and of his own manner, so accompany the righteous from the slaves of Allah, you may then be with them or like them.”
Al-Fudayl said: “It is not for the believer to sit with anyone he desires…”

Shirk Is Not Limited to Idols And Includes Seeking Intercession Through Prophets, Angels, Jinns, and the Righteous
Refutation of the Mushriks who seek Intercession and nearness to Allaah by the Righteous dead, and who claim that Shirk is only embodied in invoking idols and stones and trees. The verses refer to worship of the Prophets, Angels, Jinn, the righteous dead, and they also allude to the worship of the dead with the use of idols as the focal point, the idols being used to represent those righteous dead.
Az-Zumar (39):3
Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say): "We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allâh." Verily, Allâh will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever.
Allah Azzawajjal States
Yunus (10):18
And they worship besides Allâh things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allâh." Say: "Do you inform Allâh of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?" Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners with Him!
Al-Ma'idah (5):116
And (remember) when Allâh will say (on the Day of Resurrection): "O 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say unto men: 'Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allâh?' " He will say: "Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my innerself though I do not know what is in Yours, truly, You, only You, are the AllKnower of all that is hidden and unseen.
Saba' (34):40-41
And (remember) the Day when He will gather them all together, and then will say to the angels: "Was it you that these people used to worship?" [40] They (angels) will say: "Glorified be You! You are our Walî (Lord) instead of them. Nay, but they used to worship the jinns; most of them were believers in them." [41]
Al-Isra (17):57
Those whom they call upon [like 'Iesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary), 'Uzair (Ezra), angel, etc.] desire (for themselves) means of access to their Lord (Allâh), as to which of them should be the nearest and they ['Iesa (Jesus), 'Uzair (Ezra), angels, etc.] hope for His Mercy and fear His Torment. Verily, the Torment of your Lord is something to be afraid of!
Ash-Shu'ara (26):69-73
And recite to them the story of Ibrâhim (Abraham). [69] When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." [71] He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? [72] "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" [73]
Fatir (35):14
If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you (O Muhammad SAW) like Him Who is the AllKnower (of each and everything)

Tawheed is a Sign of the People of Sunnah
"Testifying that none has the right to be worshipped except Almighty God", has the same meaning as: "To worship Almighty God and to reject anything along with Him", which has the same meaning as: "The Tawheed of Almighty God".
In the following lecture delivered by Abu Khadeejah in Bradford, our brother highlights the importance of Tawheed from the works of the Scholars of Ahlus Sunnah, and illustrates that Tawheed is one of the distinguishing characteristics amongst the people of Sunnah.

The Wahabi Myth
The Wahhabi Myth (2nd Edition) - Dispelling Prevalent Fallacies and the Fictitious Link with Bin Laden By Haneef James Oliver
The 'Wahhabi' Myth by Haneef James Oliver clarifies many of the gross inaccuracies and outright lies that have been attributed to the belief of the Salafi Muslims (often referred to as "Wahhabis"). Although some reporters have been vigilant enough to rebut some of these widespread fables, most have fallen headfirst into what one discerning reporter called, "the neo-conservative line that the whole conspiracy against America can be traced back to Wahhabism and the government of Saudi Arabia."
The author of The 'Wahhabi' Myth outlines the principles of the Salafi creed in an easy to understand manner. Using many different sources, he carefully presents the arguments of the critics of Salafism and successfully addresses the misconceptions that are contained within these criticisms. Specifically, he addresses the commonly held belief that Osama Bin Laden is a Salafi/"Wahhabi". He compellingly dispels this myth and unveils the sect that has provoked Bin Laden to become the leader of a terrorist movement.

Shaikh al-Uthaimeen: How Muslims Should Behave in Non-Muslim Societies

The esteemed and late Shaikh Muhammad bin Salih al-'Uthaimin stated, during a tele-link in the evening of Friday, 28th July 2000, to an audience in the city of Birmingham, UK:
".. Likewise I invite you to have respect for those people who have the right that they should be respected, those between whom there is an agreement (of protection) for you. For the land in which you are living is such that there is an agreement between you and them. If this were not the case they would have killed you or expelled you. So preserve this agreement, and do not prove treacherous to it, since treachery is a sign of the hypocrites, and it is not from the way of the Believers. And know that it is authentically reported from the Prophet that he said,"
"Whoever kills one who is under and agreement of protection will not smell the fragrance of Paradise."
"Do not be fooled by those sayings of the foolish people, those who say "Those people are Non-Muslims, so their wealth is lawful for us (to misappropriate or take by way of murder and killing)." For by Allaah - this is a lie. A lie about Allaah's Religion, and a lie about Islamic societies."
"So we may not say that it is lawful to be treacherous towards people whom we have an agreement with."
"O my brothers. O youth. O Muslims. Be truthful in your buying and selling, and renting, and leasing, and in all mutual transactions. Because truthfulness is from the characteristics of the Believers, and Allaah - the Most High - has commanded truthfulness "- in the saying of Allaah - the Most High -
O you who believe - fear and keep you duty to Allaah and be with the truthful
And the Prophet encouraged truthfulness and said,
"Adhere to truthfulness, because truthfulness leads to goodness, and goodness leads to Paradise. And a person will continue to be truthful, and strive to be truthful until he will be written down with Allaah as a truthful person."
And he warned against falsehood, and said,
"Beware of falsehood, because falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. And a person will continue lying, and striving to lie until he is written down with Allaah as a great liar."
"O my brother Muslims. O youth. Be true in your sayings with your brothers, and with those Non-Muslims whom you live along with - so that you will be inviters to the Religion of Islaam, by your actions and in reality. So how many people there are who first entered into Islaam because of the behaviour and manners of the Muslims, and their truthfulness, and their being true in their dealings."

Establish the Islamic state in your hearts (and) it will be established for you upon the Earth.
Said the Muhaddith of this era, the reviver of the religion in this century, the Shaykh of Islaam, Muhammed Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaani (May Allaah have mercy upon him):
"...If we want our honour from Allah, the Blessed, the Most High and that he lifts the humiliation from us..., then it is not (simply) sufficient for that in what we have pointed out. (It is not sufficient just know) the obligation of correcting concepts and removing opinions which have misinterpreted the proofs of the sharee'ah amongst the people of knowledge and fiqh. Rather, there is something else out there which is very important - and it is the essence of correcting concepts; indeed, it is action. Knowledge is the vehicle for action and when a person learns and his knowledge is absolutely clear and then he does not act upon it, then it is extremely obvious that this knowledge will not bear any fruits. Thus, it is necessary that the action be linked with this knowledge.
It is obligatory upon the people of knowledge that they assume responsibility for the tarbiya' (cultivation) of the new Muslim generation in the light of what has been established from the Qur'aan and Sunnah. It is not permissible for us to leave the people to that which they have inherited from concepts and mistakes, with some of these being definitely false according to the consensus of the Imaams and others being differed upon having some validity by way of observation, Ijtihaad and opinion. And some of this Ijtihaad and opinion is in conflict with the Sunnah.
So, after the 'Tasfiyah' (purification) of these matters and the clarification of what is obligatory to proceed and advance upon, it is necessary to cultivate the new generation upon this authentic knowledge. This is the 'Tarbiya', which will produce for us the pure Islamic society...

Former Pentecostal Minister Embraces Islam!
Foreword
As a former minister and elder of the Christian church, it has become incumbent upon me to enlighten those that continue to walk in darkness. After embracing Islam I felt a dire need to help those who have not yet been blessed to experience the light of Islam.
I thank Almighty God, Allah, for having mercy upon me, causing me to come to know the beauty of Islam as taught by Prophet Muhammad and his rightly guided followers. It is only by the mercy of Allah that we receive true guidance and the ability to follow the straight path, which leads to success in this life and the Hereafter.
Praise be to Allah for the kindness shown to me by Shaykh 'Abdullah bin 'Abdul-'Azeez bin Baz upon my embracing Islam. I cherish and will pass on the knowledge gained from each meeting with him. There are many others who have helped me by means of encouragement and knowledge, but for fear of missing anyone, I will refrain from attempting to list them. Sufficient it is to say that I thank Almighty God, Allah, for each and every brother and sister that He has allowed to play a role in my growth and development as a Muslim.
I pray that this short work will be of benefit to all. I hope that Christians will find that there is yet i hope for the wayward conditions that prevail over the bulk of Christendom. The answers to Christian problems are not to be found with the Christians themselves, for they are, in most instances, the root of their own problems. Rather, Islam is the solution to the problems plaguing the world of Christianity, as well as the problems facing the so-called worldof religion as a whole. May Allah guide us all and reward us according to the very best of our deeds and intentions.

Live Radio Broadcast on Crime and Murder in Society
Our brother, Abul-Hasan Maalik appeared live this week on Philadelphia morning radio to discuss the recent unfortunate criminal activities which have led to Muslims, and Salafis in particular, being unjustly painted with the taint of crime, violence and extremism. In particular, this was part of a campaign to clarify the gross inaccuracies and outright fabrications contained in the article, "The Radicals Among Us", written by Matthew Teague and printed in the February 2009 issue of Philadelphia magazine. and He also took live calls from callers about the topic at hand other topics about Islam. Please note that this recording of the live show has been edited for content by SunnahAudio.com and all extraneous and irrelevant portions have been omitted to keep the overall message intact. A Beautiful Hadith...
Hadith No. 2989 - Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (sallalaahu ahleyhi wassalam) said, "If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel saying, 'Allah loves so and-so; O Gabriel! love him.' Gabriel would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. 'Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him also,' and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth."

Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (sal Allaahu alaiyhi wa sallam)
Question to Permanent Committee for Research and Verdicts:
What is the ruling upon celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (sal Allaahu alaiyhi wa sallam) in the month of Rabee’ ul Awwal, as a means of extolling him (sal Allaahu alaiyhi wa sallam)?
Answer:
Extolling the Prophet and venerating him is only through: eemaan in everything with which he came from Allaah, and following his sharee’ah – in aqeedah (creed), and speech, and action, and manners – and leaving off innovating in the religion. And celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (sal Allaahu alaiyhi wa sallam) is from innovating in the religion. And with Allaah is the tawfeeq. And may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet, Muhammad and upon his family and Companions.
Permanent Committee for Research and Verdicts. Shaykh `Abdul-`Azeez Bin Baz, Shaykh `Abdullah bin Ghudayaan, Shaykh `Abdullaah bin Qu`ood, Shaykh `Abdur-Razzaaq al-`Afeefee. Question 1 from fatwa number 3257, Volume 3, p 23, of the fatawa of the Permanent Committee.

The Guardian Newspaper Reviews the Salafi Bookstore Bradford
Salafi Bookstore, Bradford
147 Lumb Lane, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD8 7SP
It has an enticing shop front and just gets better when you step inside. This very contemporary looking shop is one of the very few bookshops in which Muslims and non-Muslims can come and learn about authentic Islam. It has a great selection of books for children and adults; even more impressive is the range of free literature available, dispelling many misunderstandings regarding this religion - a truly enlightening experience. With a serene atmosphere and very friendly staff, this wonderful bookstore is a 'must-see' even if you aren't remotely interested in Islam. Be sure to pass by!
