A Warning to the Muslims of Cardiff (Wales) Against the Cult of Omar Bakri

This is part of a series of leaflets put together by the Salafi community of Cardiff to warn the Muslims against the cult of Omar Bakri that is operating in that area.

Noble brothers and sisters, we would like to bring to your attention the fact that in the last few months a handful of youth well known for their lack of knowledge by most in South Wales have been inviting supporters of Omar Bakri Muhammad to deliver Islamic lectures. Alhamdu lillaah, most of us are familiar with the antics and false doctrine propagated by this group.

However, there are a few in Cardiff who may be unfamiliar with this group especially as they try to camouflage their identity by constantly renaming themselves. Those who are organising these events are even deliberately omitting the names of the speakers from some fliers as they are aware that the Muslims will flee from any seminar involving individuals like this.

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee Defends the Islaamic University of al-Madeenah

The Shaykh defends the Islaamic University of al-Madeenatun-Nabawiyyah against those who accuse it of being a Hizbee University. The Shaykh takes the moderate and reasonable path when he clarifies that he does not speak like the extremists who say that there is no hizbee found therein, but that any hizbee who may be there is unable to speak out in the presence of Ahlus-Sunnah who yield influence there. And he declares that the one who declares it a Hizbee University has openly proclaimed his own ignorance.

What is the bid’ah that takes a person outside the Circle of Ahlus-Sunnah?

Ash-Shaykh, al-‘Allaamah Rabee’ bin Haadee al-Madkhalee

Question:
“What is the bid’a that by it, a man is considered to be outside
the circle of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah?

Ash-Shaykh Rabee’ answered:
“Like the bid’ah (related to) al-Qadr 1, the bid’ah of Irjaa’ 2, the bid’ah of Rafdh 3, the bid’ah of Khurooj 4, the bid’ah of the Soofees, like the birthday celebrations of shirk, and other than them. And travelling to the graves and things like these – baarakAllaahu feekum. From this type. Taking ahlul-bid’ah as friends and companions makes a person from them and supporting them and defense of them. For indeed Ahmad bin Hanbal, it was said to him: “Indeed some of the people sit with ahlulbid’ah”, so he said: “Advise him!” He said: “I already advised him, but he refused (to leave sitting with them).” He (Ahmad) said: “Consider him with them”. So the one who sits with the people of innovation and mixes with them, it is proven and established against him that he is ill, and that he agrees with those people, and regarding this there are proofs;

“The souls are enlisted soldiers, so those that became familiar with one another from amongst them (in the heavens) will be inclined (towards each other in the world), and those from amongst them that opposed one another will differ.”

So this one, his coming close to them and being friendly with the people of innovation is a daleel that there is agreement and similarity between the two affairs and the two individuals, or the two groups. Anyway, what we have mentioned is that which takes one outside the circle of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah.”

Ibn al-Qayyim: Siwak Has Numerous Benefits for Oral Hygiene

The great scholar Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned the numerous benefits of using the siwak (miswak) in his Prophetic Medicine, and said that it was a commonly-used and recommended act by the
Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi sasallam).

"If it were not that I would make it difficult for my community, I would order them to use the siwak before every time of prayer." (Bukhari, Jumu'a, 8).

"It is a means of purifying the mouth, pleasing to the Lord." (Bukhari, Sawm, 27).

Ibn al-Qayyim said that the best kind of siwak was made from the wood of the arak (Salvadora persica) tree and similar woods, and should not be made from an unknown tree, as it may be poisonous. He also said that the best way to use the siwak was moistened with rose water.

The great scholar said that the siwak should be used in moderation, and mentioned some of its benefits as:

  • Purifies the mouth
  • Cleanses the teeth
  • Strengthens the gums
  • Prevents cavities
  • Sweetens the breath
  • Cleanses the brain
  • Creates appetite for food
  • Assists in digestion of food
  • Clears eyesight
  • Provides energy

Ibn al-Qayyim recommended the use of the siwak at all times, at times of prayer and for ablution, on awakening from sleep, when the odor of the mouth had changed, and for a person fasting or breaking the fast.

What Is the Siwak?

The siwak (or miswak) is a natural toothbrush commonly made from the twigs of the salvadora persica tree. Other trees with bitter roots, such as the walnut or olive tree may also be used.

The bark of the siwak is light brown and its inner surfaces are white. It has a warm and pungent taste.

The stem bark of the salvadora persica tree, the tree commonly used for siwak, contains chlorides, fluoride, silica, sulfur, Vitamin C and small quantities of tannins, saponins, flavonoids and sterols.

Health Properties of the Siwak

A study carried out in Saudi Arabia in 2003 compared the use of miswak with ordinary toothbrushing. The study found:

"It is concluded that the miswak is more effective than toothbrushing for reducing plaque and gingivitis, when preceded by professional instruction in its correct application. The miswak appeared to be more effective than toothbrushing for removing plaque from the embrasures, thus enhancing interproximal health."[1]

More research from Saudi Arabia found the positive effects of the siwak on the immune system.[2]

Extensive research has also been conducted by Dr. Rami Mohammed Diabi on the health effects of miswak, especially its anti-addiction effects on smokers as a curative and preventive measure.[3]

Another study showed that the miswak had comparable effects on plague control, when compared to chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX), one of the best-proven anti-plaque agents. [4][5]

Tips on Using the Siwak

  • A siwak is usually about 15 cm in length and under 1 cm in diameter, which makes it easy to handle when cleaning the mouth.

  • Before using the siwak, some of the bark at one end of it is usually stripped off and softened by chewing it slightly to separate the fibers.

  • If the siwak dries out, it can be softened by soaking it in fresh water or rose water.

  • The end should be cut afresh each time the siwak is used to ensure hygiene

Shaykh Ubayd al-Jaabiree Advises the Muslims of Iraq and Palestine

The noble Scholar of al-Madeenah is asked if the fighting in Iraq and Palestine is considered Jihaad. In his usual manner, the Shaykh begins by reminding the listener of the pertinent ahaadeeth regarding the current situation of the Muslims. Then he goes onto advise the Muslims of Iraq and Palestine to obey the leaders whom Allaah has placed in authority over them and to not split up the unity of the Muslims, thus increasing the chaos and tumult.

Ibn al-Qayyim: Patience Preserves the Health of Hearts and Bodies

Ibn al-Qayyim said in The Prophetic medicine regarding patienc

Patience is half of faith; for this is a quality composed of patience and gratitude (shukr). As one of the ancestors (salaf) has said: Faith is in two halves: one half patience, one half gratitude. And the Most High said:
Indeed in that there are signs for each one who is patiently persevering and truly grateful [Surah Ibrahim: 5].

Patience in relation to faith is like the head in relation to the body. It is of three types:

(1) patience concerning the obligations (fard) laid down by Allah, that one should not neglect them;
(2) patience in abstaining from actions forbidden by Him, that one should not commit them;
(3) patience concerning His judgments (qada') and decrees (qadar), that one should not resent them.

Whoever perfectly fulfills these three degrees has perfected patience. For the pleasure of this world and the next, their blessings, and victory and conquest can only be reached over the bridge of patience, just as no-one reaches Paradise except by crossing over the Path. 'Umar b. al-Khattab said: We attained the best of life through patience.

If you reflect on the degrees of perfection acquired in the world, you will see that they are all dependent on patience. And if you reflect on imperfection, which one is blamed for possessing, you will see it all stemming from lack of patience. Thus courage and purity, goodness and love of others, all this is the patience of an hour.

Most sicknesses of the body and heart arise simply from lack of patience. And there is naught like patience for preserving the health of hearts, bodies and spirits. For it is the great remedy, the mighty tiryaq, even if it were to contain only the company of Allah
"for Allah is with the patient" [Surah Al-Baqarah:153],
and His affection for them for indeed
"Allah loves those who are patient"[Surah Al-Imran:146],
and His giving victory to His people 'for victory comes with patience'; and that it is a good for the people of patience,
"And if you show patience, that is indeed the best course for those who are patient" [Surah An-Nahl: 126],
and that it is the cause of prosperity,
"O you who believe! Persevere in patience, vie in perseverance, be ever vigilant, and fear Allah, that perchance you may prosper" [Surah Al-Imran:200].

The Ruling of Bringing Cellphones into the Masjid

From: Al-Qawlus-Sadeed: The Straight forward word

Question
What is the ruling on bringing cell phones that have ring tones, pictures, and music into the Masjid?

Answer
That is not permissible in the Masjid or in any other place. However in the Masjid it is worse. That is because the Masjid should be respected. It is the place of worship and remembrance of Allah the Glorified, the Most High and a place for prayer and reciting the Quraan. The angels and the Muslims gather within it. Therefore it is not permissible to bring these types of offensive materials into the Masjid, not ring tones or music or pictures.

Shaykh Saalih bin Fawzaan al-Fawzaan, May Allah preserve and protect him. (Member of the Major Scholars and Permanent Committee for Religious Rulings).

Recollections from the recent Da'wah tour of England from our brother Abul Hasan Malik

What follows is Abul-Hasan Maalik's recollections from his recent da'wah tour of England. Included within this account of events are various benefits of 'aqeedah and manhaj and various glad-tidings for Ahlus-Sunnah. The author also alludes to the recent cries about the 'rise and fall' of the Salafee da'wah.

Included within this essay:

...it was an atmosphere of learning, and how pleasantly surprised I was when the questions from the sisters came. They were detailed questions concerning affairs of creed, manhaj, worship and womens affairs surrounding the ruling of a woman traveling without a mahram to make hijrah (migration) or hajj. It reminded me of the statement the Muhaddith al-Albani (d.1420H) would often quote from one of the Salaf, "The good question is half the answer."

...The mosque was completely filled, and with no room, the people stood in the back to benefit. There was no one outside talking or mingling; the people came to hear the narrations of the Messenger of Allaah and write the benefits we read from the Scholars of this Religion past and present...

...Then by the permission of Allaah, we met a young man named Michael who was interested in Islam. We sat and dialogued with him and listened to his concerns. We did our best to answer those concerns for him, and by Allaah's permission, Michael repeated the Shahadatayn (two testimonies of faith) and entered the Religion of Islam.

...To show the level of diligence in the audience, when a few of them near the speaker's table ran out of paper to write on, they began to write down notes on napkins. After seeing this, I thought of something I read concerning the compilation of hadith in the early generations of the Ummah during the time of the Companions where the people would record the narrations on parchment, bark, and even the bones of animals.

...One of the things that most touched me was the many different colors and nationalities of the brothers there. I would look around and see Sumalis, Pakistanis, Arabs, Black Caribbeans and Englishmen.

...This group of tens of new Salafis reminded me that the da'wah continues to grow, in spite of those who talk about a fall of the Da'wah al-Salafiyyah.

The Torture Endured by the Companions Because of their Adherence to Tawhid

The Companions of Allaah's Messenger (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) suffered the worst forms of torture because of their adherence to the correct 'aqeedah, and their making all worship purely and sincerely for Allaah alone, and their rejection of shirk and kufr.

From 'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood, radiyallaahu 'anhu, who said, "The first people to openly proclaim their Islaam were seven: Allaah's Messenger (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam), Aboo Bakr, 'Ammaar and his mother Sumayyah, Suhayb, Bilaal and al-Miqdaad. So as for Allaah's Messenger (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam), Allaah gave him protection through his uncle Aboo Taalib.

As for Aboo Bakr, Allaah gave him protection through his people. But as for the rest of them, the mushriks would take hold of them and dress them in iron armour and place them to scorch and roast in the sun. There was not one of them except that they responded to them except Bilaal, for his soul became as nothing to him for Allaah's sake, and his people had no respect for him. So they gave him to the children who used to drag him around the streets of Makkah and he would say repeatedly, '(He who has the right to worship is) One, One.'"116

In the Seerah of Ibn Hishaam, 117 there occurs: 'Umayyah ibn Khalf used to take him (Bilaal) out in the midday heat of the sun, and throw him down upon his back, on the ground of the flat valley bed of Makkah, and he would order for a large rock to be placed on his chest. Then he would say, "By Allaah, you will stay like this until you die, unless you disbelieve in Muhammad (Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam) and you worship al-Laat and al-'Uzzaa." So he would say, whilst he was in that condition, "(He who alone has the right to worship is) One, One."

Sumayyah was tortured until death because of the 'aqeedah of tawheed not because she was a political leader. From Mujaahid who said, "The first martyr in Islaam was Sumayyah the mother of 'Ammaar. Aboo Jahl thrust a spear into her abdomen." 118

Ibn Sa'd said, "She accepted Islaam early on in Makkah and she was one of those who was tortured to force them to abandon their religion. But she bore and endured it until Aboo Jahl came to her and thrust a spear into her abdomen and she died." 119

Footnotes

[116] Reported by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak (3/284) and he declared it saheeh and adh-Dhahabee mentioned it in Siyar A'laamin-Nubalaa (1/348) and he said, "It has a saheeh chain of narration..."

[117] Seerah of Ibn Hishaam (1/318).

[118] At-Tabaqaat of Ibn Sa'd (8/264/265). He said, "Ismaa'eel ibn 'Umar, Abul-Mundhir related to us that Sufyaan ath-Thawree narrated to us from Mansoor from Mujaahid who said..." This is a saheeh chain of narration to Mujaahid.

Subduing the Ash'aree Assault Against the Salafee 'Aqeedah

Our brother, Abul-Hasan Maalik has replied to the arguments that have re-emerged during the recent Ash'aree uprising in Philadelphia and their subsequent attacks upon the Salafee 'aqeedah. Since some of the local ignoramuses have regurgitated the arguments of their Imaams in misguidance Muhammad Zaahid al-Kawtharee, Muhammad 'Alawee al-Maalikee and Nuh Ha Mim Keller. The speaker goes onto compile an abundance of evidences from the noble Qur`aan and the authentic Sunnah proving beyond a shadow of a doubt how the Attributes of Allaah were understood by the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and his Companions. He lends further support to this evidence through the statements of the early Imaams from the Salaf as well as the later Scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah.

Do the Jinn know the Ghayb (unseen)?

The knowledge of Ghayb is one of the attributes of Lordship, thus no one knows the Ghayb of Heaven and Earth except Allah; Allah (may He be Exalted) says,

Surah Al-An`am, 6: 59 And with Him are the keys of the Ghayb (all that is hidden), none knows them but He.

He (Great is His Majesty) also says,

Surah Al-Naml, 27: 65 Say: “None in the heavens and the earth knows the Ghayb (Unseen) except Allâh”

The Jinn do not know the Ghayb, and this is proven in His Saying (may He be Exalted),

Surah Saba', 34: 14 Then when We decreed death for him [Sulaimân (Solomon)], nothing informed them (jinn) of his death except a little worm of the earth which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his stick. So when he fell down, the jinn saw clearly that if they had known the Unseen, they would not have stayed in the humiliating torment.

Therefore, anyone who claims to know the Ghayb will be a Kafir (disbeliever) and anyone who believes in this claim will be a Kafir as well, for they will be denying the Qur'an.

May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions!

The Last Sermon of Caliph Umar b. Abd Al-Aziz

It is reported that the last sermon ‘Umar b. ‘Abd Al-‘Aziz – Allâh have mercy on him – delivered was as follows:

He praised Allâh and said, “You were not created in vain, nor will you be left without purpose. Verily, you have an appointed time in which Allâh - the Most High - will come down to judge you. Wretched and ruined will he be who leaves the mercy of Allâh and is denied a Garden whose width is that of the heavens and Earth. Know you not that no one will be safe tomorrow save one who is wary of today and fears it; and sells the transitory for what will remain, and the little for the plenty, and fear in exchange for security [in the hereafter]? See you not that you are in the loins of the dead, to be taken by those who remain after you, until all matters return to the Best of Inheritors? Every day, [in the funerals] you accompany those returning to Allâh the Mighty and Sublime, having spent their time, until you hide them in a crevice in the ground, in the belly of a bare and unfurnished hole, having parted from their loved ones, stroking the dirt and facing their accounts. Now, they are dependent on their deeds, free of what they left behind, in need of [the deeds] they put before them. So fear Allâh before the time He appointed is up and death descends upon you. This is what I have to say.” He then lifted the edge of his garment over his face and wept profusely, and made everyone around him weep.

Abû Bakr Al-Daynûrî, Al-Mujâlasah wa Jawâhir Al-‘Ilm Vol. 3 p343.

The Cancer Of Terrorism

A lecture that despite being recorded in the winter of 2004, is still of significance and benefit today. The focus of the sermon is on the disease of terrorism, the way it affects the nations like a cancer. The speaker explains how it opposes the Islamic texts and goals. Excuses are not to be made for terrorists (Jihaadists) who claim they are acting for the benefit of Islaam. Rather Islaam teaches completely the opposite of the actions of these extremists. A lecture that does not pull any punches!

ELECTIONS & VOTING: What do the Scholars say?

The Advice and Warnings of Ash Shaykh Ubayd Al Jaabiree

[Q]: “Is it permissible for the Muslims in the lands of disbelief to enter into elections and request from the Muslims to support them in this from the aspect [of being] from the lesser of the two evils or to repel the greater evil?”

[A]: I say: Elections are not from the Sunnah (the way of the Prophet) that is known by the Muslims and that which the Salaf traversed upon from the time of the Companions and the Imaams of the Taabi’een, and those who came after them. Rather, it is a newly invented matter in Islaam, so it is a bid’ah (innovation), and if it is a bid’ah (innovation) then it is muharram (unlawful).

However, if the Muslims in the West or other than it are compelled to enter into elections then there are a number of circumstances [to be present]. From them: That they will not receive any of their rights that are legislated in their country except by way of a representative to speak on their behalf. So if they are forced to do this and they have no choice, they either elect a man who is Muslim or lose their rights and have no one to hear their concerns. In this situation they elect a righteous man who is wise that will benefit the Muslims and look after their rights.

But if the Muslims were patient upon the hardships and loss of their rights in the way of abandoning this innovated matter it is better for them and more desirable. And Allah knows best.

TRANSLATOR'S NOTE: It should be noted here that the Muslims in the U.S. and U.K receive the same rights as other non-Muslim citizens. They build mosques, schools, and open centers of propagation without hindrance or opposition. Muslims openly call to Islam in publications, radio broadcasts, the internet, and in public forums whether on university campuses or in correctional facilities, in fact Islam is still the fastest growing religion in the West.

Muslim women can be seen on the streets of many cities in full hijab and Muslim men in Islamic garb and full beards, all of this with no obstruction from the authorities. All of these rights are afforded them without need of entering elections or voting.

Best of Both Worlds...

Abdullaah ibn Mas`ood radiallaahu `anhu relates that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam would supplicate:

“O Allaah! I ask You for guidance, piety, safety and well-being, and contentment and sufficiency.”
(Allaahummaa innee as’alukal-hudaa wat-tuqaa wal-`afaafa al-ghinaa). [Related by Muslim, no 2721]

“This du`aa (supplication) is from the most comprehensive and beneficial du`aas (supplications), since it includes asking Allaah for well-being with regards to both the Religion and the world.
Thus, al-hudaa (the guidance) is beneficial knowledge, and at-tuqaa (i.e. taqwaa or piety) is righteous actions and leaving-off what Allaah and His Messenger have forbidden; and this is (asking) for correctness and well-being of a person’s Religion.

For indeed, the Religion comprises of beneficial knowledge and recognising the truth - which is guidance - and standing firm upon obedience to Allaah and His Messenger sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam - and this is piety. And al-`afaafa (well-being and safety) and al-ghinaa (contentment and sufficiency) comprises of being safe from (the harms of) the creation and that the heart is not attached to them. And it also comprises of being content with Allaah and what He provides, and seeking whatever will cause the heart to be satisfied with Him.

So with this, happiness in this worldly life is completed, and the heart tastes true sweetness and delight and this is a goodly life.So whosoever is granted the provision of guidance, piety, well-being and contentment has indeed achieved true happiness, and has acquired all that could be possibly sought after, as well as being saved from all that is dreadful and frightening.”

The Conditions of Laa ilaha illAllaah

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
"Whoever says La illaha illa-Allaah, it will be his salvation someday, no matter befalls him before that."
(This was reported by Bayhaqee, declared authentic by al-Albaanee in Ahadeeth as-Saheehah #1932)

Seven Conditions of Laa ilaha illAllaah:
1. Al-`Ilm (Knowledge of the meaning of the shahadah, its negation and affirmation, the opposite being ignorance)
2. Al-Yaqeen (Certainty perfect knowledge of it that counter-acts suspicion and doubt)
3. Al-Ikhlaas (Sincerity which negates shirk and riya)
4. Al-Sidq (Truthfulness that permits neither falsehood nor hypocrisy)
5. Al-Mahabbah (Love of the shahadah and its meaning, and being happy with it, rather than disliking a thing)
6. Al-Inqiad (Submission to its rightful requirements, which are the duties that must be performed with sincerity to Allah (alone) seeking His pleasure)
7. Al-Qubool (Acceptance that contradicts rejection)
